Barbara Oakley

Barbara OakleyTim and I moved to Church Stretton in 2010 from Northamptonshire, where Tim had been vicar of two rural parishes. We felt called by God to retire to Church Stretton, and love living here.

Before retirement I was a secondary school RE teacher, and have also worked for the Acorn Christian Healing Foundation, training children and young people in listening skills. In retirement I have enjoyed working as a volunteer for the Church Mission Society; Tim and I were CMS mission partners in Kenya in the eighties.

I have just completed eight years as churchwarden here in the Strettons. This gave me ample opportunity to get to know many members of the church family, which I continue to do in my new role as pastoral care coordinator.

In my leisure time, as well as exploring the local area I enjoy cooking, embroidery, colouring, reading and gardening. We have two sons and six grandchildren, who we enjoy meeting up with whenever possible.
